Apple iPhone 4 Bumper

The "Apple Bumper Case" was the first acessory released for the iPhone 4.  It was originally made to fix the "reception issue", and to give the iPhone a little flare.  It is made from a plastic mould and durable rubber, making the bumper two toned.  It comes in 6 different colours, which vary from neon green to a plain black.  I would also like to mention that the volume and power buttons of the case are made from the same stainless steel as the original iPhone buttons are, which is a great feature. 

Unfortunately, knowing apple, they do not include anything other than the case itself.  However, I was a fan of the typical simple apple packaging.   

The acessibility to the bumper case is ok.  Unfortunately, the product is specifically made to work with apple products only, such as the small headphone and dock connecter cutout.  I also noticed that if your thumbs are fairly large, you could have some difficulty accessing the mute switch.  Nonetheless, everything else was fine and I especially loved pushing the stainless steel buttons!

The protection to the case is not very good because the front and back are completely exposed.  Therefore, I would highly recommend using a front and back screen protector.  The case forms a slight ledge around the circumfrence, which prevents the front/back of the iPhone from coming into contact with anything while laying flat.  It also supplies great side protection.

The looks are amazing.  I really like how you can show off your iPhone, yet still protect it to some extent.  It also adds minimal bulk and feels great in the hand.  I purchased the neon green and the color is very vibrant, which I love!  LIke I mentioned earlier, if you want a low profile case you can simply pick up the plain black.

Now there are a small handful of cons to this case.  Such as, how the silicone part of the bumper gets dirty quite easily and starts to change color.  I also noticed that after dropping my phone, the plastic part dents easily.  However, I would rather have the case damaged, than the iPhone.  Another thing to note is that you must adjust the rubber into place by massaging it, when installing the bumper.

Bottom Line

This case leans more towards asthetics, rather than protection.  I personally find this case to be expensive, especially compared to other cases made from the same quality level.  I would recommend this case to the semi-careful individual who loves Apple products.
